About Henrietta

Henrietta Bond lives in Yorkshire with her husband, three cats and a horse called Dingbat (who she swopped for a pound and a bottle of red wine). She’s been trying to write a novel since she was nine, and first embarked on The Adventures of Daisy, the Disgruntled Cow.

Henrietta then did drama at university and was often mistaken for a witch because of her black clothes, green lipstick and black nail varnish. However she somehow got vaguely presentable and became a terrible secretary, before worming her way into public relations. Where, after reading the biography of Mother Theresa of Calcutta, she decided that she wanted to stop promoting boxed flowers and instead ‘do good to the world’. So she entered the cut-throat world of small charities.

Fear of small children

Initially Henrietta was terrified of all small children but got over that after working as media and info officer at Barnardo’s and then British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF). Where she found out that children and young people are really pretty amazing – especially teenagers. So long as you look them in the eye and treat them with respect.

Nice people she's worked with

Since becoming freelance, Henrietta has worked with Fostering Network, The Who Cares? Trust, A National Voice, the Child Accident Prevention Trust and many other children and young people’s organisations, as well as local authorities and some government departments.

Henrietta has also written for The Guardian, Community Care, Care and Health and Children Now, and is the author of several non-fiction books about fostering.

Important update

Only once has a small child been sick all over Henrietta during a photo shoot.
